I hate driving when people tailgate. I hate it when people tailgate me. It's bad enough when regular people in regular cars do it, but when cops and big truck drivers do it, it's enough to push me to a frenzy and drive slower than I should.

That's why this morning on my way to work, when it wasn't possible for me to slow down on the interstate because the big truck would have kept coming and probably rolled over my car, I had to yell "Fuck off!" and flip him off in my rearview mirror. I know that he didn't hear me and I'm not certain that he saw me, but it made me feel better.

When people do that, I like to start dancing, and doing weird things, so they think I'm not paying attention. Sometimes, though, they just move so they can pull up alongside and point and laugh. Then today, I relized I might distract them and they might hit me. And that would be bad. Okay, maybe I didn't have any advice for you... Here's some more, though--stay out of law school!

Personally, I like to play the engine braking game. If I'm nice, I only drop from 6th gear to 5th and slow down slowly, but if they're real assholes (flashing lights/honking in addition to tailgating), I'll drop into 4th or 3rd. You slow down quickly with the accelerator and your brake lights don't come on. Man, that pisses them off. Make sure you've still got torque, though, in case he isn't paying attention.. so you can speed up if necessary. Manual transmissions. A must have for any car.
