Library-related post follows:

I was doing a trace/claimed return sheet today (where we look for books that we (sniff) can't find on the shelf when they're supposed to be there or that people just know they've returned but we can't find them) in the 640s. The 640s are chock-full of popular subjects such as cooking, dieting, sewing and raising your baby right.

So, I'm straightening the books up as I'm looking for the ones on my sheet and reading the titles as I go along because it's good to do that so you know what books are in your library. Then I saw a book that made me look again. Surely I did not see a book titled The Basement Book: Upstairs Downstairs: Reclaiming the Wasted Space in Your Basement! Oh, but I did. Why, I thought to myself, do we have a book about basements?

I checked the due date slip to see if it had ever been checked out and when it was added to the collection. The book has been there since 1996 (or maybe 1998) and never been checked out. You know why? If you live down here, you don't have a basement!
