Holy crap, tomorrow is the first day of December. Today, the last day of November, I am at home and not at work attending a meeting about the future of my library because my throat hurts oh so badly.
Seriously, I left work yesterday and went to the doctor, who said that I have Pharyngitis, which is a fancy way of saying that I have a really bad sore throat. I also had some fever, which was observed as I shivered in bed under two layers of covers while wearing a t-shirt and a hoodie.
I probably could have made myself go into work today, but my throat is still hurting and I'm kind of achy from all of the shivering. Plus, our Christmas / housewarming party is Saturday evening and I must get better by then!
One good thing about getting sick was that I swiped a book from the donation table to read while I waited in the doctor's office, and I've discovered that I like Carl Hiaasen's style.
Oh, I've been reading a lot online about the holiday display that Lakeside Mall received many complaints about; they've taken it down because of those complaints. It's certainly interesting.
This entry is closed to new comments. Sorry.

Hey Lauren, I know I don't ask for much but I have a request to which I think you are probably exceptionally well suited to help me with. I'm looking for a list of the best 100? books of all time, best works of literature, something along those lines. Preferable recommended by some respected authority on the subject (who? I dont know). Not just best sellers, but the best works. I bet Harvard or the Library of Congress or some publishing guild has such a list but I'm not familiar with which is best.....can you help me? I'm trying to round out my education in the humanities--engineering left little time for fluff like Hemingway, Kerouac, & Faulkner

Will, I'd highly recommend the Choose your own Adventure series. It's about your reading level, and there's lots of pictures too.

The Modern Library created a list, and that's the one that I am most familiar with. I also did a quick search, and it seems that Time has a list also. Have fun!

Thanks, I'm sorry to say that from the modern library list, I've read only 5, 4 of which were part of assigned school work! I like the choose your own adventure shawn, but since I have Atlas Shrugged at home, I'll start there.

Man, the story about them taking down the holiday display at Lakeside makes me really sad. I've emailed and called in a complaint about them taking it down. It makes me not want to shop there for Christmas. :(
