Ooooh, I got called a bitch yesterday at work, pretty much to my face. I think that it was one of the proudest moments of my life, when I kicked that chick and her friends out.
You see, we have this system where you need your library barcode number to use the computers. We've had this system in place for quite awhile now. We do have the ability to put people on as guests, but many patrons have abused that privilege, so we are now cracking down and enforcing our library-card-to get-on-the-computer rule for everyone (except visitors from out of town).
So this girl comes in after school yesterday, she's probably around 13 or so, and asks to be put on as a guest. I say, "I'm sorry, you need to have your library card." She's a regular library computer user, so she definitely knows the rules. She walked away talking smack under her breath, but, contrary to what Shawn may tell you, I don't walk around looking for fights, so I ignored her.
A few minutes later, I see her sitting at a computer while her friend, who brought her card, is using the computer next to her. Girl without a card is now playing with the monitor settings, making it brighter and darker and back again over and over. We don't need a screwed up monitor and I'm already annoyed by her, so I walked over to tell her to quit messing with it. Then I turned around to help someone on a computer next to her when I hear her say, "Bitch" under her breath.
Wow, I thought. She's stupid. I then turned around and told her, "Oh, I'm sorry, you'll have to leave and not come back today." Her friend found this very funny and started laughing quite loudly, so I got to say, "And if you find that to be so funny, you can leave too." And she did. They both did.
It really makes you feel good and understand your place in the universe when you get to kick two 13-year-old punks out of the library.

13? You should have sent them home to our apartment! Were they hot?

Yes, Kelly, it delighted me to no end! And she was larger than you could handle, Doug.

Oh, that must've been awesome - wish I could've seen that. All you seem to do at that library is run in to people who annoy you.

Nah, I really like most of the people that come to the library, especially the ones that say thank you. The annoying ones are just more fun to write about.

I'm so glad you kicked them out!

Good for you. Punk kids who call others a "bitch" should be kicked out. What ever happened to respect for one's elders, anyway? When I was 13, I never called people names like that. *uprighteous sniff*
